Machine for drilling a tap hole in a shaft furnace. A B S T R A C T The machine is designed for the application of a process in which the closing and the opening of the tap hole comprise respectively the positioning and the extraction of a drill rod, which is left inside the tap hole between two successive tappings. It comprises a bar (18) mounted at the free end of a carrier arm (20), a percussion instru- ment (22) which slides along the said bar (18) under the action of a hydraulic motor of sufficient power to extract the drill rod (12) without recourse to the percussion instrument (22) and means by which the bar (18) can come to rest on the wall (10) of the furnace during the extrac- tion under the action of the said motor.
