ABSTRACT OF THE DISCLOSURE Apparatus for machining the seal faces of drill pipes having an adapter which screws onto a drill pipe, the adapter carry- ing a spindle non-rotatably supporting a sleeve which in turn supports a rotary tool head having a radially movable tool for facing the seal face of the drill pipe. The sleeve has support means solid therewith which carry a hydraulic motor geared to rotate the tool head, and the support means also carries the rear ends of hydraulic cylinders which cause radial feeding of the tool via a wedging mechanism. Special means are provided for solidly locking the adapter within the spindle after the adapter has been screwed onto a pipe end, and for adjusting the axial position of the tool head relative to the pipe.
