An apparatus for shredding building materials such as asphalt shingles and gypsum wallboard for the purpose of recycling. The apparatus consists of a shredding chamber enclosing rotating cutting blades. The cutting blades are notched in a pattern such that alternating blades mesh. The apparatus is poweredby a chain driven feed roll sprocket system which is in turn powered by a standard power take-off unit. The feed roll sprocket is of a diameter to regulate the speed of the cutting blades so that the material being output is granular innature.
