A machine for slicing a product (2), such as rod-shaped sausage or the like, comprises a knife for cutting off slices from one end of the product (2). The product (2) is held at the other end by claws (8) in order to advance the product (2) against the knife. The claws (8) are helically curved and are rotatably driven about the centre axis of the helix.
