ABSTRACT OF THE DISCLOSURE A machine for the tying of packages, having a gripper which places the tying means around the package, the gripper being moved by a pull means and stopped in a position where the ends of the tying means are connected to each other. A consistent return of the gripper to the basic position is due to the fact that the basic position of the gripper lies approximately at the center point of an arcuate section of the path of the gripper pull means so that the gripper position is retained even though the pull means may continue to move.
