Abstract of the Disclosure There is disclosed a gap eliminator used for reducing air cut time in machine tools. To compensate for supply voltage variations a signal proportional to the power or current con- sumption of an electric motor under no or light load conditions is compared with the signal under load conditions after attenua- tion of the latter, to provide a signal by which the feed rate of the tool is controlled. A noise cancelling circuit for eliminating periodic noise is disposed between the detector producing the signal proportional to consumption and the com- parator in order to eliminate periodic noise from the signal. Further an abnormal level of the noise-cancelled signal is detected to provide a secondary signal, by which the machine is brought to a stop.
