A magazine stores a multitude of work pieces (7) in a plurality of stacking units (2) on a turntable (3) for presenting these work pieces one by one in a constant retrieval position for pick up by a robot or production machine. The stacking units (2) are arranged around a central vertical column (4) on the turntable (3). Each stacking unit (2) has a retrieval or discharge opening (6, 26) for the work pieces. A sensor (11) provides a signal that signifies that the particular stacking unit (2) is empty. A drive mechanism advances the turntable (3) in response to such an "empty" signal through such an angular range that the next stacking unit is positioned to present the work pieces one-by-one in the fixed retrieval location until that stacking unit is empty. Thus, the work pieces are always presented at the same location for an easy retrieval.
