This circuit consists of the following components: 1. BT2 ~-3.6 VDC battery 2. R2 ~-390 .OMEGA. Resistor 3. D2 ~-LED Diode 4. ADT05 ~-Thermostatic Switch 5. C2 ~-0.1 Uf Capacitor 6. Rset ~-Temperature Setting Resistor (Here 33 K.OMEGA.) Circuit description: BT2 is used to power-up the circuit. LED D2 provides the light behind the smile on the brush. The intensity of this light is determined by the value selected for resistor R2. Smaller values of R2 will generate a more intense light. Capacitor C2 is used for decoupling purposes and maintains the battery output at a constant level. Thermostatic Switch ADT05 is a temperature controlled switch that actually monitors the mouth temperature and turns the LED diode ON, when this temperature exceeds the preset value (using Rset). ADT05 is functionally identical to part AD22105, both IC's are available in surface mount packaging but ADT05 has 5 pins where AD22105 has 8 pins of which 3 are not used. Analog Devices (AD) had planned to start manufacturing ADT05 as of January 1999 but due to lack of demand they did not produce any, since similar item 8 pin configuration (AD22105) is already offered in the market. So the prototype brush provided to you has an AD22105 inside rather than an ADT05. Ambient temperatures of 20-30 °C will not TURN-ON the LED. Brushing temperature on the tip of the brush starts to rise towards 34.7°C (since Rset=33K.OMEGA.). Once temperature is above 31 (there is a 4°C Hysteresis). Triggering temperature can be changed using a different value for Rset using the formula provided in technical specifications for ADT05 & AD22105.
