A thin film phosphor for an electroluminescent device, and the electroluminescent device. The phosphor comprises a compound of the formula Mgx Ca1-x Al2 S4:M, where the value of x is in the range 0 < x < 0.3 and M is a rare earth activator. Preferably, the value of x is in the range 0.05 < x < 0.20. A thin film phosphor for an electroluminescent device, the phosphor comprising magnesium calcium thioaluminate activated with a rare earth metal, the calcium thioaluminate containing an amount of magnesium to effect a lowering of the temperature of deposition of the phosphor on a substrate. A method for the preparation of the phosphor on a substrate, said method comprising the steps of: (i) depositing a mixtures of sulphides of magnesium, calcium, aluminum and rare earth metal on a substrate, and (ii) annealing the mixture of sulphides on the substrate so as to form the phosphor. The mixture of sulphides may be deposited on the substrate at a temperature of not greater than 200 ~C. Preferably, prior to step (i), a photoresist pattern is deposited on said substrate e.g. using photolithography.
L'invention concerne un phosphore à film mince pour dispositif électroluminescent, et ledit dispositif électroluminescent. Le phosphore contient un composé de formule Mg¿x? Ca¿1-x? Al¿2? S¿4?:M, dans laquelle la valeur de x est comprise dans la fourchette 0 < x < 0,3 et M est un activateur des terres rares. De préférence, la valeur de x est comprise dans la fourchette 0,05 < x < 0,20. Cette invention a également trait à un phosphore à film mince pour dispositif électroluminescent. Ce phosphore renferme du thioaluminate de calcium de magnésium activé avec un métal des terres rares, le thioaluminate de calcium contenant une quantité de magnésium permettant d'engendrer une diminution de la température du dépôt de phosphore sur un substrat. Ladite invention a aussi pour objet un procédé de préparation du phosphore sur le substrat, ce procédé consistant à (i) effectuer un dépôt d'un mélange de sulfides de magnésium, de calcium, d'aluminium et de métal des terres rares sur un substrat, et (ii) à recuire le mélange de sulfides sur le substrat, de manière à former le phosphore. On peut former un dépôt de ce mélange de sulfides sur le substrat à une température qui n'est pas supérieure à 200 ·C. De préférence, antérieurement à l'étape (i), on forme un dépôt d'un modèle à photorésine sur ledit substrat, par exemple, en utilisant la photolithographie.
