ABSTRACT An electrophotographic printing machine having a cleaning station which removes magnetic particles from a photoconduc- tive surface. The cleaning station includes a magnetic member being electrically biased by a constant electrical field having an alternating electrical field superimposed thereover. The alternating electrical field has a peak amplitude suffi- cient to substantially neutralize the attractive force between the photoconductive surface and the magnetic particles so as to enable the cleaning station to readily remove the magnetic particles from the photoconductive surface.
