PHN 8865 22.11.77 ABSTRACT A magnetic domain device comprises a first layer of a magnetic material for the formation magne- tic domains, for example bubbles, under the influence of a background magnetic field, which field is dis- posed transversely to said layer. There is provided a propagation structure with magnetically operating elements for driving the magnetic domains by the se- quential formation thereon of preferred positions for said domains. Drive means for the formation of a se- quence of preferred positions comprise a second layer of silicon with current conductors arranged thereon, so that the heat developed in the current conductors can readily be carried off by the silicon which ex- hibits a good thermal conductivity. In a first em- bodiment the current conductors are arranged so as to generate a rotary magnetic field in the plane of the first layer. In a second embodiment the current conductors are meander-shaped and arranged along a propagation structure for locally alternately at- tenuating and amplifying the background magnetic field. In a third embodiment the currents in the current conductors drive a so-called bubble lattice. The said current conductors may also be employed for selectively creating domains and controlling them through switches, and for detecting and destroying domains. - 44 -
