ABSTRACT A playback device for playing back information in which mechanical deformations representative of the stored onformation are provided in the surface of a record carrier is disclosed. The record carrier consists of a permanent magnetisable material or is covered with such a material. A sheet of monoaxial magnetisable material which comprises a single-walled magnetic domain ("bubble") is used as a playback element. The size of the domain is modulated upon moving the recording medium with respect to the sheet. Deposition of the domain in the sheet upon playing back can be corrected by way of fine control.
