Systems and methods are provided separating a first group of cells from a mixture of at least first and second groups of cells in a suspending fluid. The system includes an annular flow channel and at least one magnetic element positioned around the exterior of the annular flow channel as to provide a radially symmetric magnetic field around at least a portion of the annular flow channel. The at least one magnetic element is configured to provide a gradually increasing magnetic field along the axis of flow as to limit the maximum magnetic gradient within the annular flow channel. A pump is operatively connected to a terminal end of the annular flow channel to force the suspending fluid through the annular channel.
L'invention se rapporte à des systèmes et des procédés permettant de séparer un premier groupe de cellules d'un mélange d'au moins un premier groupe et un second groupe de cellules dans un fluide de suspension. Le système comprend un canal d'écoulement annulaire et au moins un élément magnétique positionné autour de l'extérieur du canal d'écoulement annulaire de sorte à créer un champ magnétique radialement symétrique autour d'au moins une partie du canal d'écoulement annulaire. Le ou les éléments magnétiques sont configurés pour fournir un champ magnétique augmentant graduellement le long de l'axe de sorte à limiter le gradient magnétique maximum au sein du canal d'écoulement annulaire. Une pompe est reliée de façon fonctionnelle à une extrémité terminale du canal d'écoulement annulaire pour forcer le fluide de suspension au travers du canal d'écoulement annulaire.
