A method and apparatus to amplify the magnetic field in an electromagnetic cirucit is provided. Amplification factors of several orders of magnitude may be obtained. The system is applicable to a number of different systems, including melt levitation and electromagnetic pumping and propulsion. One embodiment of the invention uses a non-conducting permeable core wound around a dielectric core. An alternating voltage source is connected to a solenoid which is wound around a section of the permeable core. The permeable core has a gap within which a flux concentrating cold crucible is provided. Melt levitation processing takes place within the cold crucible.

L'invention concerne un procédé et un appareil pour amplifier le champ magnétique dans un circuit électromagnétique. Il est possible d'obtenir des facteurs d'amplification de plusieurs ordres de grandeur. Le système peut s'appliquer à un grand nombre de systèmes différents, y compris le maintien en suspension d'un matériau en fusion, le pompage électromagnétique et la propulsion. Un mode de réalisation de l'invention utilise un noyau perméable non conducteur enroulé autour d'un noyau diélectrique. Une source de tension alternative est connectée à un solénoïde qui est enroulé autour d'une section du noyau perméable. Le noyau perméable comporte un entrefer dans lequel est prévu un creuset froid de concentration du flux. Le traitement de maintien en suspension du matériau en fusion s'effectue dans le creuset froid.
