RD-10819 ABSTRACT OF THE DISCLOSURE An improved magnetic core is provided for electrodeless fluorescent lamps. The core is in the form of a stress- relieved toroid formed from a spirally-wound ribbon of magnetic amorphous metal alloy. The alloy is of the formula (FexNi100-x)100-yRy where R is at least one glass former, x is an integer of from 20 to 35 atom percent, and y is an integer of from 15 to 25 atom percent.
