ABSTRACT OF THE DISCLOSURE A magnetic detector for detecting the magnetic field from a magnetic field generating substance which includes saturable coils of an even number aligned on a straight line with a distance between adjacent ones larger than a width of said magnetic field generating substance, the saturable coils being separated into at least two pairs, a high frequency oscillator for supplying a high frequency voltage through resistors to each pair of saturable coils, and a circuit for recfitying voltages generated across the resistors in a differential manner as an output, wherein when the magnetic field generating substance is displaded over an interval wider than the width thereof relative to the saturable coils, the magnetic detector generates a linear output voltage.
