A rigid disk substrate for a magnetic recording disk is formed of a ceramic- metal matrix composite. A metal-cladding may be included around the ceramic- metal matrix composite to form a sandwich structure. The ceramic-metal matrix composite has a composition ranging from approximately 1 to 40 weight % of ceramic and 60 to 99 weight % of metal matrix. The metal matrix material and the metal cladding material are aluminum or an aluminum alloy.

Un substrat de disque rigide destiné à un disque d'enregistrement magnétique est constitué d'un composite en céramique-matrice métallique. On peut disposer un placage métallique autour du composite en céramique-matrice métallique pour former une structure en sandwich. Le composite en céramique-matrice métallique présente une composition constituée approximativement de 1 à 40 pourcent en poids de céramique et de 60 à 99 pourcent en poids de matrice métallique. Le matériau de la matrice métallique et le matériau du placage métallique sont l'aluminium ou un alliage d'aluminium.
