A plurality of magnets contained or held within a flexible nonmagnetic strap which is wrapped around the exterior casing of a filter for liquids which are typically lubricating fluids. The magnetic fields created by the magnets attract and capture magnetic particles suspended within the lubricating fluid against the interior wall of the filter casing. The captured particles include particles too small to be captured by the filter itself but large enough to cause additional wear of parts if allowed to continue circulating within the fluid. The flexible strap containing the magnets may be wrapped around the filter any number of times thereby enabling the magnetic filter strap to fit numerous filter sizes. The flexible strap may also be made stretchable, with adjustable or non adjustable joining devices at the ends or may also have the ends permanently joined. This also enables the magnetic filter strap to fit filters of various sizes. The magnetic filter strap is reusable from filter to filter and can be used on spin-on or cartridge type oil filters used in automotive and industrial applications.
