ABSTRACT OF THE DISCLOSURE Magnetic tapes are made more wear proof and have coefficients of friction lowered by the addition of a lubricant such as molybdenum disulfide to the mix of magnetic powder and binding used to form the coating; however conventional materials do not provide sufficient smoothness, and roughing or "blooming" may occur. Organosilicic compounds having the general formula Image where R and R' represent a hydrocarbon group (alkyl or alkenyl) having 8 to 18 carbon atoms, R'' is a hydrogen atom or a methyl group, m is in the range from 1 to 15, and n1+n2 is in the range of 2 to 16, have extraordinary properties which make them suitable for such uses.
