The layer comprises a compound having the formula (1): Image (1) (in which R1 is an aliphatic hydrocarbon of 11 to 31 carbon atoms, R2 and R3 each are hydrogen, an alkyl having 1 to 8 carbon atoms or an aryl). The compound (1) acts as a lubricant and the magnetic recording medium has a good durability.
