Enhanced security of information contents kept in recording tracks of a recording medium is provided via track identification (ID) information disposed in each recording track. To prevent the recording track ID information from being tampered with, the ~D information is included within a substrate hosting the recording medium. The recording track ID information is buried in each of recording tracks with a pattern of projections and depressions on the non- magnetic substrate. When reading the information contents data recorded in the recording track, the track ID information of the recording track is read together with the contents data.
