MAGNETIC ROLLER ABSTRACT A magnetized roller is mounted on the hall doors of an elevator system. A metal vane is attached to an ele- vator car door. The hall doors and car doors are opened together and the roller is magnetically pulled against the vane. The magnetic pull holds the roller on the vane and a mechanical connection between the two doors is thereby provided. Through this mechanical connection the car door provides supplemental closing force to the hall door. The roller comprises a ring which is magnetized by two smaller ring magnets which are located on opposite sides of the ring. The like or similar poles of each magnet face each other. The magnets rotate together with the magnetized ring on a shaft. The pole strength of the magnetized ring at its outer edge, which contacts the vane, is approximately equal to the combined pole strength of the two magnets.
