Abstract of the Disclosure An improved magnetic sensor assembly comprising a perma- nent magnet recessed within a pole extension magnet with a pick-up coil disposed around a portion of the pole extension magnet, each of the permanent and pole extension magnets having one end thereof substantially coplanar. The sensor assembly may be enclosed within a magnetic shield having an access opening providing access to the sensing region of the sensor assembly.
