In the case of the magnetic separator in which a conveyor belt conducted over a belt drum (12) transports rela- tively electrically conductive particles (16), a magnetic system (20) rotating at high speed and consisting or permanent or electromagnets is arranged eccentrically in the belt drum (12) so that the air gap between the outer surface of the magnet system (20) and the inner surface of the belt drum (12) is not constant but assumes such a value that the magnetic lines of force lose their influence on an iron particle (48) coming between the belt drum (12) and the conveyor belt (10) and the iron particles (48) and by scrapers (40, 44) [sic] can be removed from the belt drum (12) or the conveyor belt (10) a damaging of the belt drum (12) by the iron particle (48) is thus excluded.
