- 1 - ABSTRACT OF THE DISCLOSURE A substrate transport system includes a low friction flexible ski located adjacent to and cooperating with a high friction belt to form a predetermined transportation path for a substrate. The low friction ski has flexible magnets adhered to the surface thereof remote from the belt. Magnetic attraction between the magnets and a metal member located interiorly of the belt provides the normal force necessary to press the ski and substrate against the high friction surfaced belt for frictionally driving the substrate along the path.
