A MAGNETICALLY OPERATED LATCH ABSTRACT A magnetically operated latch includes one or two latching members (4), the or each member (4) including a permanent magnet (5) and being turnable or slidable between an engaging position (Figure 1) and a disengaged position, and a further member (7) of magnetically soft material which attracts the magnet(s) (5) to displace the latching member(s) (4) into the engaging positions(s) (Figure 1). To disengage the latching member(s) (4) a further magnet (12) is brought to a position (Figure 1) in which it acts repulsively on the permanent magnet(s) (5) by way of the further member (7).
