An ignition system is provided for an internal combustion engine (67) that operates in two modes. In a first mode, the timing of the spark event is under electronic control. In a second mode, the timing of the spark event is fixed and synchronized to the mechanical rotation of the crankshaft (65) of the engine. Under normal operating conditions, the timing of the spark event is electronically controlled. If the electrical system of the engine malfunctions, the ignition system defaults to the second mode in which ignition timing is mechanically controlled.

Un système d'allumage est prévu pour un moteur à combustion interne (67) fonctionnant en deux modes. Dans un premier mode, la synchronisation de l'étincelle d'allumage est commandée électroniquement. Dans un deuxième mode, la synchronisation de l'étincelle est fixe et assurée en fonction de la rotation mécanique du vilebrequin (65) du moteur. Dans des conditions de fonctionnement normales, la synchronisation de l'étincelle est placée sous commande électronique. Si le système électrique présente un défaut de fonctionnement, le système d'allumage passe dans le deuxième mode qui est contrôlé mécaniquement.
