ABSTRACT A mail collection system moves mail between a remote location and a base location along a continuous wire loop extending between said locations. The wire loop is supported on pulleys and is rotatable in either direction by means of a motor. Affixed to the loop, at opposite sides, are two containers for carrying mail. The containers are located relative to one another so that the distance of one container from the base location along the loop is always equal to the distance of the other container from the remote location along the loop. At the remote location, the loop is canti- levered and supported on a hinged beam so that the loop will swing away, rather than break, if it is struck by a snow plow or the like. When mail is placed in a container in the remote location, the motor can be activated to move that container to the base location. Simultaneously, the other container moves to the remote location to await additional mail.
