Making foamed bodies by introducing a biodegradable polymer mixture into a mould (10) in which it is heated to form a foam and to fill the mould. The mould is defined between two opposed parts (12, 14) that mate together, and each mould part is of electrically conducting material, and the moulding surfaces are coated with an electrically insulating material (16). Radio- frequency signals are applied (25) between the mould parts (12, 14) so that the polymer mixture is heated by dielectric heating, so a foam tray is formed in less than 15 s. This provides a more rapid cycle time than using heated moulds. The radio frequency signals may be 27.12 MHz, or 40.68 MHz. The polymer may be starch-based.

La fabrication de corps alvéolés consiste à introduire un mélange e polymères biodégradables dans un moule (10) dans lequel il est chauffé pour former une mousse et remplir le moule. Le moule est formé de deux parties opposées (12, 14) qui s'apparient, chaque partie de moule étant constituée d'un matériau électroconducteur, et les surfaces du moule recouvertes l'un matériau électro-isolant (16). Des signaux de radiofréquence sont appliqués (25) entre les parties du moule (12, 14) de façon à chauffer le mélange polymère par chauffage diélectrique, et à obtenir un plateau en mousse en moins de 15 s. Ceci permet d'obtenir un temps de cycle plus rapide qu'en utilisant des moules chauffés. Le signaux de radio fréquence peuvent être de 27,12 MHz or 40,68 MHz. Le polymère peut être à base d'amidon.
