The pin has a terminal end, a generally cylindrical shoulder portion extending axially along the pin and a frusto-conical surface portion tapered from a larger diameter juxtaposed with the shoulder to a smaller diameter at the terminal end of the pin. The apparatus also includes means for deposit- ing the plastic powder upon at least a portion of the thread- defining surface within the cavity, means for subsequently re-distributing the plastic powder within the cavity and means for heating the fastener to fuse the deposited and distributed plastic powder.
