Method and system for making a spherical proppant having a selected grade from a naturally occurring mined mineral having a hard-ness of over 6.0 Mohs. The method and system involves preprocessing the mineral mechanically into a semi-dry feedstock comprising a mass of parti-cles with initial sphericity values generally less than 0.60; subjecting the semi-dry feedstock to an aggressive abrasive attrition operation for a pro-cess time; and, controlling the process time to a value wherein the particles of the feedstock are converted to final processed particles having a spheric-ity greater than 0.60 by increasing the sphericity of the feedstock particles by at least 0.10. In addition, the processed particles are screened to obtain a proppant having a selected grade.
L'invention concerne un procédé et un système de fabrication d'un agent de soutènement sphérique de granulométrie choisie à partir d'un minéral extrait d'origine naturelle présentant une dureté Mohs supérieure à 6,0. Le procédé et le système font intervenir les étapes consistant à prétraiter mécaniquement le minéral pour donner une charge semi-sèche constituée d'une masse de particules dont les valeurs initiales de sphéricité sont généralement inférieures à 0,60 ; à soumettre la charge semi-sèche à une opération vigoureuse d'usure par abrasion pendant une certaine durée de process ; et à réguler la durée de process à une valeur pour laquelle les particules de la charge sont converties en particules traitées finales dont la sphéricité est supérieure à 0,60 en augmentant la sphéricité des particules de la charge d'au moins 0,10. De plus, les particules traitées sont criblées afin d'obtenir un agent de soutènement d'une granulométrie choisie.
