A chimeric, carboxy-terminal truncated hepatitis B virus nucleocapsid protein (HBc) is disclosed that contains an immunogen for inducing the production of antibodies to malarial proteins. An immunogenic malarial epitope is expressed between residues 78 and 79 of the HBc immunogenic loop sequence. The chimer preferably contains a malaria-specific T cell epitope and is preferably engineered for both enhanced stability of self-assembled particles and enhanced yield of those chimeric particles. Methods of making and using the chimers are also disclosed.

L'invention concerne une protéine nucléocapsidique carboxy-terminale tronquée du virus de l'hépatite B (HBc) contenant un immunogène destiné à induire la production d'anticorps dirigés contre les protéines paludiques. Un épitope paludique immunogénique est exprimé entre les résidus 78 et 79 de la séquence immunogénique en boucle de HBc. La chimère contient de préférence un épitope de lymphocyte T spécifique au paludisme. Elle est de préférence conçue pour conférer une stabilité améliorée aux particules auto-assemblées et pour doter ces particules chimériques d'un rendement élevé. L'invention concerne également des méthodes de construction et d'utilisation de ces chimères.
