Conventionally a host device having a service function specific to the host device and a host function comprises common means such as an interface section for controlling the power supplied to a service section and a host section both for performing the respective fucntions, and therefore it has been difficult to turn off the power for the host fucntion and substantially impossible for the user to control the service function. A host device of the invention includes an interface section (103) for receiving at least an ON or OFF command from external, a host section (105) connected to a network, a service section (104) for performing a predetermined operation, a power supply (110) for supplying electric power at least to the host means (105) and the service section (104), and a power supply monitoring section (106) for controlling the state of power supply to the host means (105) and the service section (104).
