Embodiments of the invention include a method and an architecture for specifying network resources based on applications requirements. Applications resources are defined with the Asynchronous Transfer Mode (ATM) Quality of Service (QoS) parameter and the network resources are allocated based on Resource reSerVation Protocol (RSVP) flow specifications. An end user or automated application can define the resources desired for their application using a policy mapping database that maps the ATM QoS parameters to the RSVP flow specification.
Cette invention comporte une méthode et une architecture pour définir des ressources de réseau selon des exigences d'applications. Les ressources d'applications sont définies d'après les paramètres de qualité de service (QS) du mode de transfert asynchrone (MTA), et les ressources du réseau sont attribuées selon les caractéristiques de débit du protocole de réservation des ressources (PRR). Un utilisateur ou une application automatisée peut définir les ressources voulues pour leur application au moyen d'une base de données de mappage de politiques qui établit une correspondance entre les paramètres de QS du MTA et les caractéristiques de débit du PRR.
