A system, and an associated method, for the management of multimedia data generated by several remote events are disclosed. The system generally comprises three main elements: multimedia data gathering units, a data processing and distribution unit, and end-user terminal units. Broadly, the data gathering units can be embodied as portable interactive display systems typically provided with cameras and microphones adapted to gather multimedia data. The data processing and distribution unit receives, via a data communication network, all the multimedia data gathered by the gathering units, processes it, and transmits the selected processed data, also via the data communication network, to the end-user terminal units. The terminal units display simultaneously all the selected processed data such that an overview of all the events simultaneously occurring can be seen by the end-users. The system is preferably bidirectional such that end-users can possibly provide data to be processed, selected, and ultimately displayed by the gathering units.
