A patterned sheet (13) having two long sides is wrapped around a mandrel (89). The mandrel is provided with at least one flat surface. The long sides of the sheet are secured adjacent to the flat surface of the mandrel and points along the long sides of the sheet are connected by laser welding or other connecting means. The laser beam (28) is directed substantially perpendicular to the welding plane of the points to be welded, even if the weld points do not all lie on a single line parallel to the mandrel's longitudinal axis.

Une feuille dessinée (13) présentant deux côtés longs est enroulée autour d'un mandrin (89). Ce mandrin présente au moins une surface plate. Les côtés longs de la feuille sont fixés contre la surface plate du mandrin et les points situés le long des côtés de la feuille sont reliés par soudage laser ou autres moyens de raccordement. Le faisceau laser (28) est dirigé de manière sensiblement perpendiculaire au plan de soudage des points à souder, et ceci même si ces points ne sont pas tous situés sur une même ligne parallèle à l'axe longitudinal du mandrin.
