ABSTRACT OF THE DISCLOSURE A mandrel lubricant for use in the manufacture of seamless tubes is composed of graphite, a clay mineral from the smectite class, a polysaccharide and optionally, a surfactant. The lubricant is applied to a mandrel in the form of an aqueous dispersion after the mandrel has passed through a cooling bath.
