ABSTRACT OF THE DISCLOSURE This invention is directed to a novel rubber seal which is formed in place in a circular entry port in a concrete manhole for a sewer pipe, thereby providing a water-tight seal between the manhole rim and the sewer pipe, and a novel method of forming the seal in place in association with the concrete manhole when it is formed of concrete. The invention comprises a sealing ring for sealing the annular opening existing in a plane between an inner circular shaped member and an outer circular shaped member comprising a generally circular ring member having a generally V-shaped cross-sectional shaper the two legs of the V-cross-section shaped sealing ring member being embedded in the peripheral wall of the outer circular shaped member such that distortion laterally from the plane of the protruding base portion of the V-shaped, sealing ring member in either direction places a compression force on one of the legs of the V-shaped sealing ring member, thereby tending to increase the width and tighten the fit of the leg embedded in the wall and enhancing the sealing properties of the sealing ring in association with the wall of the outer circular member. The invention also comprises a novel method of embedding the legs of the V-shaped ring member in the peripheral wall of the outer circular shaped member while the member is being cast of settable material.
