A manual control unit (30) is connected via a pressure water supply line (104), a return line and two control lines, all of which run within a spiral hose (28), to a valve device of a bath tub lift, which features two hydraulically actuated working valves, so as to fill or empty a lifting hose of the bath tub lift. The manual control unit (30) contains a valve spool (50) which is pushed into its central position by two compression springs (96, 98), in which position the two control lines are depressurised. Swivelling the handle (42) from its neutral position causes the valve spool (50) to be displaced so that a control line is opened to admit pressure water. The manual control unit is small in size, can be manufactured cheaply and is easy to dismantle for maintenance purposes.
