ABSTRACT OF THE DISCLOSURE A manually-operated labeler for dispensing labels stuck on a surface of a carrier strip, comprising a carrier strip turnback part which turns back the carrier strip of the label tape, a carrier strip feeding mechanism which intermittently feeds the carrier strip turned back from said carrier strip turnback part to forward and separate the labels, a printing device which performs the printing on the labels before each label is separated from the carrier strip, an actuating mechanism having an operating part which supports said printing device and a lever provided on said operating part, a handle which is extended from the case to oppose to said lever, a lever resetting means which serves to position said lever at a fixed position in the direction away from the handle, and a checking device dividedly provided on said handle and said lever, which is characterized in that said checking device comprises an actuating means and a check signal generating part, the actuating means being provided on one of said lever and said handle and the check signal generating part being on the rest of them, wherein said actuating means is adapted to drive said check signal generating part to generate the check signal when said lever is turned as far as the specified distance toward said handle.
