ABSTRACT A method for the manufacture of a superconductor with a superconduc- tive intermetallic compound consisting of at least two elements in which a ductile component of at least one element of the compound is brought into contact with a second component which contains a ductile carrier metal for the remaining elements of the compound after which the remaining elements of the compound are admitted to the second ductile component through a chemical transport reaction at elevated temperature, the compound being formed by a reaction of its remaining elements, diffusing through the second compo- nent, with the first component.
