ABSTRACT A method of applying a layer of resin and axial fibres to a workpiece such as an automotive propeller shaft during the manufacture of the shaft includes the steps of arranging a series of fibre feed stations around the periphery of the workpiece, causing the fibres from the feed stations to converge along a conical path with the workpiece where they are united with the workpiece by circumferentially wrapped fibres. Resin is applied to the cone of fibres by throwing it out under centrifugal force from a rotating annular groove when the fibres are sufficiently close together to support a layer of resin between adjacent fibres. As the fibres are then pulled on to the workpiece, good impregnation of the resin into the fibres is achieved.
