A method of forming a cover for a stack of lumber of defined dimensions is disclosed. The process comprises forming a gusset of predetermined depth symmetrically about the longitudinal axis of an elongated piece of a lumber cover material, forming two seams in the gusseted lumber cover material for substantially the full width of the lumber cover material at locations spaced apart by a predetermined distance, and cutting the lumber cover material to form a length of lumber cover material having seams at opposing ends. The length of lumber cover material is then everted to form the lumber cover. The lumber cover is also disclosed. The lumber cover may be used in the shipping of stacks or lifts of lumber.
