ABSTRACT OF THE DISCLOSURE: Process for the manufacture of N-alkylcarbamates having a maximum of 4 carbon atoms in the alkyl. The process is based on the reaction of aromatic and aliphatic hydroxyl compounds having a melting joint of less than 120°C in the liquid state with an N-alkylcarbamyl chloride. The reaction is carried out in the absence of a solvent and a hydrogen chloride acceptor.
