A process of making paper or paper board comprising forming a cellulosic suspension, flocculating the suspension, mechanically shearing the suspension and optionally reflocculating the suspension, draining the suspension on a screen to form a sheet and then drying the sheet, wherein the suspension is flocculated or reflocculated by introducing a water-soluble polymer of intrinsic viscosity above 3dl/g into the suspension, characterised in that the water soluble polymer exhibits a rheological oscillation value of tan delta at 0.005Hz of above 1.1. The process has the advantage of improving retention.

La présente invention concerne un procédé de fabrication de papier ou de carton qui consiste à former une suspension cellulosique, à faire floculer la suspension, à cisailler mécaniquement la suspension et éventuellement à la refaire floculer, à égoutter la suspension sur un tamis afin de former une feuille puis à sécher la feuille. Dans ce procédé, la suspension est floculée ou refloculée par introduction dans la suspension d'un polymère hydrosoluble de viscosité intrinsèque supérieure à 3dl/g, caractérisé en ce qu'il montre une valeur d'oscillation rhéologique de tangente delta supérieure à 1,1 à 0,005Hz. Le procédé présente l'avantage d'améliorer la rétention.
