In a method for the manufacture of reinforced ply fabric material (11)(12) for use in construction of a pneumatic tyre one or more elongate strips (11)(12) of flexible reinforced polymeric tape are wound helically around a mandrel means (36) with successive turns in contact to form a tubular structure much wider than the width of the tape (11)(12). The tubular structure is then cut across its width and removed from the mandrel means (36) in the form of a sheet of ply fabric.
