ABSTRACT OF THE DISCLOSURE This invention relates to a method of manufacturing rotatable ignition files or flint wheels such as those found in lighters. The method comprises cutting elongate wire stock of the desired gauge in blanks and applying a series of press operations to the blanks using punches and dies to champfer the peripheral edges of the blanks. This provides axial mounting holes and hardens the respective surfaces of the blanks. This method results in less wastage of material and provides more uniform blanks. The outer hardened layer on the wheel has better hardness properties, tensile strength and yield point and an improved wear resistance when compared to those of the prior art.
