Selon ce procédé on soumet l'acier à une première déformation plastique à une température supérieure à la température limite (Md) de formation de la martensite par déformation et inférieure à la température de recristallisation, puis à une seconde déformation à une température inférieure à ladite température (Md). Lors de la seconde déformation, on déforme l'acier dans un domaine déterminé de tempéra- ture de formation de la martensite de façon que pour une déformation rationnelle supplémentaire de 0,1, l'augmentation du taux de martensite formée ne dépasse pas, à tout instant, 20%.
