- 1 - ABSTRACT OF THE DISCLOSURE "MARINE ANTIFOULING MATERIALS AND MARKERS" A marine antifouling surface comprises a continuum of water insoluble, inert material such as plastic or rubber, having a multiplicity of small discrete exposed areas of copper evenly distributed therein, there being at least 9 such areas per square inch (1.4 per cm2), the areas being spaced by no more than 7mm and in total constituting at least 13% of the area of the antifouling surface. The surface is made by applying copper or the inert material to a layer of the inert material or copper, respectively, or by mixing small copper pieces in the inert material, to achieve the defined surface. The antifouling surface is particularly useful in coloured marine identification markers.
