MARINE CABLE LOCATION METHOD Abstract An acoustic positioning method locates a marine cable 11 at an exploration site, such cable employing a plurality of hydrophones 12 at spaced-apart positions along the cable 11. A marine vessel 14 measures water depth D to the cable 11 as the vessel 14 passes over the cable 11 and interrogates the hydrophones 12 with sonar pulses along a slant range S as the vessel travels in a parallel and horizontally offset path to the cable. The location of the hydrophones is determined from the recordings of water depth D and slant range S.
